Snoring does not necessarily indicate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), but it can be disruptive to both the patient and their family. Many patients that snore may also have sleep apnea, especially when combined with symptoms such as nighttime awakenings, pauses in breathing or choking, daytime fatigue, and headaches. Untreated sleep apnea can lead to many chronic health conditions such as high blood pressure and abnormal heart rhythms.
Many individuals diagnosed with OSA are effectively treated with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), but other patients cannot tolerate the mask or complain of oral or nasal dryness and sore throat. We take a comprehensive approach including nasal surgery such as septoplasty and turbinate reduction to improve comfort and help with CPAP use.
For those with CPAP intolerance and moderate to severe OSA, we are excited to offer the Inspire implant. This device senses when you are attempting to breathe and stimulates your tongue and palate to move forward, opening your airway.
Procedures Offered:
- Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy
- Septoplasty and inferior turbinate reduction
- Inspire implant (hypoglossal nerve stimulator)
- Uvula and/or palate surgery
